Field Action TestingMaximizing the Business Value of Change
INTRODUCTION In today’s environment, with increasing emphasis on return on investments, many HR professionals and senior level executives agree on the importance of measuring the effectiveness of change initiatives and training programs. Yet, while acknowledging the importance of assessment, typically HR practitioners have had difficulties implementing a reliable, cost-effective, and time-efficient method of evaluation that goes well beyond traditional measurement of participant reactions. ACTION TOOLS FOR BUSINESS MEASURMENT AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Field Action Testing (F.AC.T) is an evaluation and continuous improvement system that measures the bottom-line impact of training and change initiatives in financial terms substantially increases their business value for participants and their organizations. F.AC.T utilizes practical tools to safely and productively access individual’s internal dialogues, that is, one's uncommunicated thoughts and feelings, including those topics that are “difficult to discuss.” In addiction, F.AC.T inquires into the participants’ meaning-making process. These unique inquiry methods provide a more precise and complete picture of how individuals apply what they have learned from a change program, what hidden barriers they face when doing so, and how the program contributed monetary to the bottom-line. F.AC.T’s capabilities include: Verifiably Determines Training Impact in Dollars -- F.AC.T quickly validates, measures, and reports a training program's or change initiative’s bottom-line impact in monetary value with a high level of credibility. Monitors Behavior and Inner Thought Process Change -- F.AC.T determines changes in behavior and inner thought processes in action or over time. Through an examination of participants’ inner thought data, (i.e., internal dialogues), F.AC.T identifies the most critical bottlenecks to maximizing participants’ daily use and business value of each of the tools, methods, or concepts taught in a curriculum or change initiative. Jointly Designs Business Solutions to Hidden Barriers -- During each interview the participant is invited to jointly design new practical solutions to overcome hidden bottlenecks that substantially interfere with on the job use of the tools and concepts taught in the program. F.AC.T participants often report receiving substantial value from identifying their most critical barriers to effective implementation, understanding their business costs, and jointly inventing new functional solutions. Program Improvement -- Unlike traditional evaluation approaches, F.AC.T is also a continuous improvement methodology. F.AC.T provides the structure to create new classroom tools and to efficiently update individual courses. Because participants actively collaborate in the design and testing of the new solutions, the business value received is substantially increased for participants and their organizations.
